"On Shabbat something happens to the world - the world becomes infinite again" - Shlomo Carlebach
Our Religious Practices Committee (RPC) at Temple Adas Shalom assumes responsibility for promoting a religious atmosphere in the community and among our members. We offer many opportunities for worship and spiritual growth for the diverse needs of Jews and their families in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties, and parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Join a community that welcomes you for one of our participatory services filled with soulful, moving music, and relevant Torah discussions.
FRIDAY NIGHT & SATURDAY MORNING SHABBAT SERVICES
Friday Night Themed Shabbat & Shabbat Torah Services
Services are led by Rabbi Meeka Simerly or one of our lay leaders. Music is led by the Temple Adas Shalom Choir or one of several soloists. We are a family-friendly “sing-along” congregation, where all congregants are invited to participate in all of the prayer-songs, and your small children are welcome to dance in the aisles. Musical instrumentation, when present, is usually piano or guitar; however, we utilize a wide variety of music for special occasions.
A variety of “themed” services are held on Friday evenings throughout the year; Eye Level Torah services highlight prayers and songs targeted for our families and children; Outdoor Shabbat and Animal Admiration Shabbat in the Summer on our lawn; English Enhanced Torah Service that focuses on English interpretation and various other events and recognitions also take place such as Sisterhood Shabbat, Confirmation Shabbat, Shabbat Across America, New Member Shabbat and others.
A dessert ONEG follows our services inside our Social Hall.

Daven & Dine
Daven (Pray) & Dine is one of our newest and most exciting family-friendly services. Services are typically led by Rabbi Meeka Simerly and, on rare occasions, by one of our lay leaders if the Rabbi is unavailable.
This unique service is an early starting, 45-minute Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming of the Sabbath) Service that features hymns, psalms, and an abundance of blessings. We often have various themes related to the month or Parashat of the week.
Following services, attendees are encouraged to dine out at the selected restaurant in Harford County with fellow members and friends of our community. Please visit the Temple Calendar to RSVP for dinner.

Saturday Morning B’nai Mitzvah Services
How empowering to watch a young person lead our community in prayers and rituals! How exciting to listen to a teen chant Hebrew and understand what s/he is saying. How inspiring to listen to fresh, meaningful interpretations of Torah through the lens of Jewish values, history, and culture!
This age-old rite of passage is always personally relevant and meaningful at Temple Adas Shalom, and you are welcome to join any Friday night for a Shabbat service and again for a Torah service on Saturday morning or afternoon as our teens become B’nai Mitzvah!
