We are excited that you are considering joining us at Temple Adas Shalom!
Our congregation remains a warm and welcoming assembly of approximately 132 families. We have a seasoned spiritual leader in Rabbi Meeka Simerly, with strong ties to local and regional Jewish communities. Our Membership is very welcoming, friendly, and diverse, running the complete gamut of ages and marital statuses. We are comprised of both traditional and interfaith families. We have a dynamic relationship across the county with other religious organizations, such as churches and the mosque, making a statement of peace and tolerance.
Temple Adas Shalom offers a robust community engagement aside from the weekly worship services and life cycle events. Our HJC Early Learning Center has an excellent accredited learning program for toddlers through Pre-K that fully prepares children for many of our public and private schools in Harford and Cecil County. The Kehillah MAGNET Religious School offers a traditional religious education with a virtual midweek class every Wednesday (Grade 3 through Grade 6) from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and an in-person weekend class that meets in our building on Sunday (Pre-K through High School) from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Most of our students who complete confirmation continue as teacher assistants (Madrichim) with our religious school, gaining valuable work experience. Our Adas Shalom Temple Youth (ASTY) teenagers are the most active in the National Federation of Teen Youth – Mid Atlantic Region (NFTY-MAR) and participate in various events throughout the year. Adult Education provides a healthy variety of activities for our members, such as Hebrew classes, a Prayer of the Month club, regular Lunch ‘N Learn, and spirited book discussions. We have an active Sisterhood that plans many functions throughout the year that are open to members and non-members who might be interested in checking out what they have to offer. The Social Committee organizes several Shabbat, holiday, and special dinners during the year, as well as fun social activities around the community. Our Social Action Committee is involved in community affairs. It sponsors volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including feeding the needy, caring for people in difficult periods of their life, and essential support to other community support groups that need our assistance.
Regardless of your membership status, you are always welcome to worship with us for Friday evening services which generally begin at 7:00 pm. The exception to that is our once a month 1-hour Daven & Dine service that starts at 6:00 pm and is followed by dining out with our fellow congregation (please make sure to check our calendar website for an updated and detailed list of events and services). If you have little ones and those times do not work for you, join us virtually on Friday nights via zoom or in person for one of our Tot Shabbat services on select Saturday mornings at 9:30 am. Our services are led by a healthy combination of Rabbi and our lay leadership.
